Research in Assistive Communication System: Sensors, Materials, and Design (ENGR 110, Winter 2012)
Students: Brian Tseng
Advisor: Shoba Krishnan
This project was a continuation of the 鈥淪witch Master 3000鈥 project. The device is for a client with strong cognitive skills, but is unable to communicate physically so she must use a monitor screen to select what she wants to communicate. The previous students (Spring 2011) used a PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor which seemed ideal for the customer鈥檚 needs. However, PIR sensors are sensitive to light and stray light could trigger the device. This student conducted research and developed a schematic and framework for a new solution and hopes another team of students will continue the project in future quarters to develop a prototype that could be tested and refined.
